Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme started by Marcia at Mailbox Monday in which bloggers can ramble on about the books they received/bought/stole over a given week. Each month a new blogger hosts the meme, and this month it’s Alternative Reads.
Some of you may have noticed that I didn’t bother to put up an MM post last week. The reasons are two fold: 1) because I was suffering from a severe lack of what I like to call “give a shit,” and 2) because I didn’t receive any books that week. I know, right? Sadness.
This week isn’t much better. I didn’t receive any new review copies (not that I need them—I’ve got about 100 books on my “to read” shelf), but I did receive a hand-me-down. It was one of my mom’s old books—an old bible that included a copy of the Apocrypha. What’s that? Well, the short version is that they’re early religious texts that were excluded from the canonical bible. Some of the Apocrypha were subsequently reintroduced by Martin Luther in his Luther Bible, and fourteen of them found their way into the current Catholic bible. My version contains the fourteen Catholic versions, but there are others out there—some of which I’ve already read. Lesser-known scriptural texts are one of my many interests (as you might have already surmised), so I’m going to have to make time to read these at some point.
Hell if I know when that will be.
