Mailbox Monday – December 10, 2012

Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme started by Marcia at Mailbox Monday in which bloggers can ramble on about the books they received/bought/stole over a given week.  Each month a new blogger hosts the meme, and this month it’s Suko’s Notebook.

The books, they keep a’rollin’ in.  Well, “the book.”  Singular.  Slow week, but I guess the last MM post with the baker’s dozen o’ books more than makes up for it.

--- The Books ---

Furies by D. L. Johnstone – Not too long ago we received another book from Mr. Johnstone, a contemporary mystery/thriller called Chalk Valley.  This one is in the same mystery/thriller vein, except it’s set in ancient Alexandria during Roman period of reign.  A wealthy merchant named Decimus Tarquitius Aculeo stumbles upon a serial killer who moves among Alexandria’s aristocrats, priests, and philosophers.  And it soon becomes apparent that the string of murders are somehow connected to Aculeo’s quest to save his mercantile empire from his many debtors.  Johnstone is a phenomenal author, and historical mystery (in an Ancient Greek/Hellenic/Roman setting especially) always floats this reviewer’s boat.  So yippee!

And now that I’ve showed you mine, it’s time to show me yours.  What did you get in your mailbox this week?
