Mailbox
Monday is a weekly meme started by Marcia at Mailbox Monday in which
bloggers can ramble on about the books they received/bought/stole over a given
week. Each month a new blogger hosts the meme, and this month it’s Audra
at Unabridged Chick.

Hit
Me by Lawrence
Block – OK, so if I’m being totally honest, I didn’t receive Hit Me this week. I actually can’t remember when I got this
book, an ARC of Lawrence Block’s newest installment of his “Keller” series of
crime books. I just found it in a folder
somewhere on my computer and realized I hadn’t mentioned it in a MM post, so
here it is. Keller is a retired hit man
(whose adventures are chronicled in the four prior novels in the series) who is
forced out of retirement by a tanking economy.
Lawrence Block is one of my absolute favorite crime writers, and why
not? If you’re going to rave about an
author, might as well pick a Mystery Writers of America Grand Master (I was
also lucky enough to land a short Q&A session with the man in which he
handed me my ass. It was totally
awesome.). And now that I realize I have
Hit Me in my digital library, I’ve
got yet another book of Mr. Block’s to add to my “to read” list.
Too Dark to Sleep by Dianne Gallagher – Maggie
Quinn was a top Chicago
homicide detective until a personal loss sent her spiraling into a deep
depression. Now her former brothers on
the force won’t let her hold a badge, and she’s obsessed with solving the case
she was working on before it all came unraveled. The question is, will her obsession lead her
to put an innocent man behind bars, or will she finally be able to find the
true killer? Dianne Gallagher has edited
and ghosted multiple works of fiction, but this is the first novel she’s
written all by her lonesome. To learn
more about her and her work, take a look at her website.
And now
that we’ve shown you ours, it’s time to show us yours. What did you get
in your mailbox this week?

Hit Me sounds pretty good. I love that a hitman has to come out of retirement because of the tanking economy.
ReplyDeleteTwo interesting reads, enjoy!

Happy reading Jonathan, they both sound good. It happens to me too sometimes, I'll find a book on MT TBR that I forgot I had. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteThose sound pretty good. I just picked up Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, his sequel is out and I want to see what all the hype is about, and become paranoid about big brother as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it when I discover books like that. I'm forever leaving them on desks or tables and they get stuff stacked on them. Enjoy!
ReplyDelete2 Kids and Tired Books MM
ENJOY your books.
